Not Just Any After School Program…

Creative 3D Design
SKA will provide students with the skills and techniques to build successful models and Marquette’s in several different mediums including various paper and recycled materials. 3D Design provides students with the opportunity for creative exploration within a problem solving framework. This program teaches the fundamentals of art and design to ensure students the ability to create successful 3D artworks. SKA teachers will guide students through a process of idea generation, 2D preliminary design, and final product creation. These offerings will provide students with more than a creative outlet. Students take away vital skills including: Creative idea generation, developing correct proportion and perspective, additive and subtraction sculpting methods and techniques used to create Marquette’s essential to fields in architecture, engineering and design.

Creative Reading and Writing
Students will be given the opportunity to engage in numerous reading and writing opportunities. This program will provide further learning opportunities by working with students on abilities essential to their success. A successful knowledge of reading and writing is essential and necessary no matter what field our students choose to be in. SKA recognizes this, and aims to foster a love of reading and writing in each of our students. Students will be given the option to sharpen their reading, writing, and problem solving skills though creative writing challenges, silent reading and reflection, or written puzzles and riddles. Students will learn to improve their story lines, plot development, grammar and writing techniques. Through these activities, SKA aims to create experiences that are both fun and educational.

Problem Solving: Robotics Lab
In our problem solving Robotics Lab, students as young as 4th grade will get the chance to build fun autonomous machines. Kids and teenagers will build and program real –life robots using the LEGO robot. This is a fantastic opportunity for kids to explore math, science and engineering while they enable the robots to complete useful tasks. Students work individually or in pairs to complete challenges. These challenges include building robots that can navigate around obstacles, follow paths, and move objects to specific locations. Kids love the challenge in the same way they love video games — because they get instant feedback and the rush of solving problems that seem just out of reach.
